Scott’s Site

It’s a family thing …

For Dana …

This is Scott.  I spoke to my friend with the support group.  He said his son (a teacher) has done this at a school before and suggested you divide the groups up and let one group write to “Dear Sailor”, another group “Dear Marine”, and same with soldiers and airmen.  We could collect them and make sure the “sailor” letters all go to sailor’s and so on.  That avoids the issue of using specific names.

As far as collecting stuff, we’ll accept anything you collect.  We are restricted as to things we can actually send into the foreign countries, but anything that we cannot send are usually donated to a local Ronald McDonald House.

Of course, if you locate a support group closer to you, and they are credible (you won’t see your donations showing up in yard sales), then it’s good to work with them.  But we’ll be glad to help.  Our group has been in operation for over 5 years and we send out about 240 boxes a month.  And I’ll be able to write an article on our website and post pictures of your group.

Let me know if you need any info.  - Scott

Hey Everybody

Just wanted to check in and say we are doing okay here.  Your dad’s blood pressure is in the normal range now most of the time, thanks to his cardiologist.  He is still having some problems with his chest muscles hurting when he does physical activity, but the doctor says he may have that for several more months.

Today we drove up to Lake Panasoffkee to Pana Vista Lodge.  That place hasn’t changed hardly any since we used to go there on vacations.  We talked to Mr. Veal.  He still recognizes your dad when he sees him. His son runs the place now but Mr. Veal is still usually around.

Grandma Jones is still about the same.  She can pretty well take care of herself but that’s all.

When you read this, I hope you will respond by letting us know how each of you are doing and what’s going on with you and how each of the grandchildren are doing.  Kevin and Liz sent us video by e-mail of Landon standing up by himself and also taking a few steps by himself.  That was really great to see.

It really gets lonesome around here sometimes.  I hope we will be seeing all of you at Thanksgiving.

Love you, Mom

Jax was fun

WSU played in Jax Sunday 9/28.  We played a lineup of mostly old songs.  I was struggling with a sore throat but overall did okay.  Marty, Dana, Christina and Johnathan were there and that was good.  They fed me lunch and we had a good visit.  I need to get my group to Jax more often!  - Scott

WSU singing in Jax AT 10:00AM (this is a correction)

WSU (Whoever Shows Up), that incredibly unremarkable Country Gospel band out Gainesville, will be coming to Jacksonville on Sept 28th.  We have about 14 songs in the lineup, including two that we have not done before - Heavenly Sunlight and Church In The Wildwood.  We will learn them the day before.  (Update: we switched out Heavenly Sunlight for Just A Little Talk With Jesus.)  We will not have our mandolin player, but we will have the other 9 of us.  Here’s a sneak peek at our drafted lineup:

1.    Saints Medley
2.    Power In the Blood
3.    Since Jesus Came Into My Heart
4.    Mansion Over The Hilltop
5.    I Shall Not Be Moved
6.    Church In The Wildwood
7.    Because He Lives
8.   (Remind Me Dear Lord - Special Music)
9.    Just A Little Talk With Jesus
10.  Are You Washed In the Blood
11.  Wonderful Time Up There
12.  Old Fashioned Meeting
13.   Blood-Washed Band
14.   Just Over in Gloryland/Will The Circle Be Unbroken

When:  SUNDAY, SEPT 28, 10:00am
Where:  (UPDATED) Garden City United Methodist Church on Dunn Ave (1 block west of corner of Lem Turner Blvd and Dunn Ave.)
There is a covered dish afterward and those people bring a lot of food.

If you guys can make it, that would be neat.  - Scott

Sunday

Hey Marty wants you to give us details about Sunday and the sing you are having. We would like to come.–Dana

Enjoying the view

We are “enjoying the view” here, reading all this stuff and keeping up with you guys and all your activities.  We’ll be going back to Punta Gorda tomorrow and will be there for a few days.—Mom and Dad

Thanksgiving

I know its early for some of you, but today is the first day of fall and time to start thinking of the holidays. Marty and I talked about it and we would like to host Thanksgiving at out home this year. All family members are invited. Please let us know by the  2nd week of November if you will be attending. We look forward to seeing you. –Dana

Creative Poet?

Who is the creative poet that is listed in the upper right on the main page?

Out of Towner

I got back from the Mid-West again yesterday. I had not heard that Uncle Toncy had passed until I got home; please pass on my thoughts and prayers to the family.

This trip was a little better, the morning temps were in the 40’s and the afternoons were in the 70’s. The plane trip to and from was terrible as they have now figured out how to get a tomato can to fly. I guess it is better than 18 hours of driving. I am chartering the Space Shuttle for my next trip.

Resa, I have a day trip to Mayo on Saturday with Michele to see off her Nephew, Brandon, who is deploying to Iraq soon and hope to see you in there if you are around. Let me know. Call me on my cell phone early this week so maybe we can plan to get together for a little bit. I prefer not to post the number here as we cannot control who visits this site. If I have not heard from you early I will call you.

I hope everyone else is OK. God Bless!

Greg

Football - not balanced this year

It’s obvious that UF is set for what should be a strong year, and The U and FSU are struggling out of the box.  I think it’s only fun to rib and joke when ‘my team’ and ’your team’ are killing everybody in their path and on a countdown to meet.  It is really unfortunate because the fans of FSU have cheered for a high-powered offense for so long and you will again, no doubt.  I hope it is sooner than later.

I remembered something I read somewhere:  Nobody impresses anybody with negativity.

So I think I’ll stick to comments about the many other things we talk about.  I know I’ll hear from yall if and when the Gators fall to someone, but that’s okay.
